Central Park Carousel- Upper East Side

special needs nyc central park carousel

When is the last time you guys went to Central Park and rode the carousel? We are so fortunate to have this timeless attraction here in the middle of the city. The kids never tire of the amusement of circling around on a beautifully painted horse. Central Park is such a wonderfully inclusive environment. Why not have a birthday party there and the kids can ride the carousel as one of the activities? In that case, kids can spread out and just be kids. With plenty of room to play games and act silly everyone enjoys themselves in a relaxed way. Later tie a pinata on a tree. Suddenly you’ve got yourself a party.

If you want more action the possibilities are endless. For instance, you bring motorized boats for the kids to drive in the pond, do group carriage rides, go to the zoo, have a scavenger hunt, or make simple crafts. None of that sound appealing? There are lovely playgrounds throughout the park. Also nearby are baseball fields where you can play an adaptive ball game. Instead of these elaborate parties sometimes it’s nice to get back to basics and utilize this giant backyard! When friends or family are visiting NYC, Central Park Carousel should be near the top of the list. Slow down take in some nature and click below…

Carmine’s -Upper West Side

special needs nyc special needs birthday parties

So there’s a rumor that Garfield once flew to NYC from Indiana just to have an Italian Birthday Dinner with Jon and Odie in the early ’90s. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me because we all know how much Garfield loves lasagna. Unfortunately, I never heard where the group dined but Carmine’s Italian Restaurant would be where I would bet.

Carmine’s has been around a long time. Since 1990 in fact. That’s certainly no easy feat here in NYC. There are two locations-one in Times Square and one on the Upper West Side. I am choosing to only recommend the Upper West Side because it is not nearly as loud as the Times Square location. I also have personal experience in having a 14-year-old’s Italian Birthday Dinner Celebration at the UWS restaurant.

To begin with, the teens had their own table and the family-style Italian dining was a hit. I chose to sit at another table and observe from afar so the kids could have some independence. Because I had planned with the restaurant beforehand the waitstaff took special care in making sure the kids felt empowered during their dining experience. Markedly, there is a nice clean, friendly, old-school ambiance to Carmines. Definitely, a place that Kids and adults can talk and hear each other with no problem. Sometimes that’s hard to find nowadays.

Additionally, we had a teen in a wheelchair attend and it was a plus that all dining areas were wheelchair accessible. The birthday dessert was huge and made quite the impression on the table because of its magnitude and glorious presentation. All in all Carmine’s Italian Restaurant is a great place to go for a family celebration of any kind or just a random Tuesday. Private rooms are available and they have a very descriptive website that you can check out below. By the way, The Times Square Location may be just as wonderful. I am only going off my experience. Divertiti, Arrivederci!

special needs venue manhattan

92Y is an ideal Special Needs Birthday Venue here in Manhattan. I’ve got all the details for you. To begin with the parties at the Y come with a private room complete with tables, chairs, and party favor for the attendees’. Whew. This sure makes things simple once I know how many people I’m having. Sure would be nice to have a room all to ourselves. I need to mention that when I went to a party there it wasn’t a darkroom in the dungeon. The room was well lit and had windows lining one entire wall. What’s more, the room was clean and well maintained. The entire building is also wheelchair accessible. Always a plus.

Furthermore, enthusiastic staff will help entertain kids of All Ages and Abilities with Gymnastics, Tae-Kwon Do, Dance, you name it. Lots of themes such as Circus in the Sky and Dance Party to name a few. As can be seen, the 92Y is the perfect Special Needs Venue in Manhattan for Birthdays or other celebrations. HEX & CO Games

What are you doing for your birthday? Have you thought about having a birthday games party? I’ve got just the spot, HEX & CO. Have you been there yet? For those that haven’t let me explain. It’s really cool.

HEX & CO. is a Game Cafe for families and friends to congregate and have some good old fashioned fun playing board games. Did you see that board game? not i-pad, Nintendo switch, or other technology. Although those can be fun too, here you actually look at the other person while you are playing. This sort of relaxed setting interaction is helpful in developing social skills as well as critical thinking. Beginners are always welcome. Thank Goodness because sometimes we all need a little help learning how to play. Afterschool Coordinators are typically onsite and ready to jump right in with assisting people to learn new and old games alike.

Some Educational Camps and Programs have been designed with Special Needs individuals in mind. Can I get an Amen? Food/Drinks are offered at both locations. Master Gamers easily turn into Party Planners able to customize an area and game to fit with your Birthday Games Party theme.
