SocRoc Soccer Classes

*This is a sponsored post on behalf of SocRoc written by me. Opinions are 100% Mine

I’m excited to announce that SocRoc Soccer has joined the Inclusion Revolution with Adaptive Soccer Classes. That’s right. NYC’s number 1 Soccer Program now offers specialized classes for members of the disability community. Here’s the scoop or as I like to say “Here’s the Disabili-tea”.

You might remember that time I was on the cover of a magazine? No? As a matter of fact, it’s true. In April of 2022, I was the Cover Star in Sutton Place Social’s local neighborhood magazine. Well, coincidentally SocRoc Soccer who advertises in that mag, read my story and came to the event we had to raise Autism Awareness. In the midst of us raising funds for charity, Heather Christie, CEO came up to me and introduced herself. Of course, my face lit up when she asked if she could enlist my help with catering to those kids who have a disability. After that, I had a phone call set with Heather’s brother former soccer professional, James Christie in no time.

At this point, I learned James already has some experience in working with patrons at SNACK *. Therefore I know you are in good hands. You know Snack*, I have talked about them before. They provide after-school and weekend activities for all abilities as well-but first let’s talk some more SocRoc Soccer.

With SocRoc you will be in a 2 :1 ratio with a certified Special Olympics Developmental Coach. Fantastic, right ?! No worrying that the coach is not trained in working with those with disabilities. SocRoc will cater your lesson to your ability. It doesn’t get better than that unless you choose to do a private session, which is also available. Oh and I almost forgot SocRoc does Birthday Parties ! In short-there is a reason why they get voted number one year after year. Go see for yourself and I do hope you’ll let me know how it goes. You know what I’m saying. They are there for you just like I am!

Not into crowds or parties ? That’s totally ok. Private Zoom slime-making classes are also available at this Manhattan pop-up location. Do you know what pop-up means? It stands for temporary. In any event, you have to go check this sensory wonderland out soon. Sloomoo has lots of wet, sticky, and smooth experiences waiting for you to sink your fingers into. By all means, click on the website below and see how easy it is to sign up for afterschool/weekend classes. Also, be sure to purchase tickets online when you want to go to the institute in person. They highly recommend this because they could sell out, and then you’ve made the trip for nothing.

On the bright side, all would not be lost because you can always look inside their gift shop which is loaded with slime to go, squishy pens, and many other spectacular gift items. I can hardly wait to hear how much you enjoy Sloomoo Institute. You know where to find me-@specialneedsnyc2020 on Instagram of course.

Central Park Carousel- Upper East Side

special needs nyc central park carousel

When is the last time you guys went to Central Park and rode the carousel? We are so fortunate to have this timeless attraction here in the middle of the city. The kids never tire of the amusement of circling around on a beautifully painted horse. Central Park is such a wonderfully inclusive environment. Why not have a birthday party there and the kids can ride the carousel as one of the activities? In that case, kids can spread out and just be kids. With plenty of room to play games and act silly everyone enjoys themselves in a relaxed way. Later tie a pinata on a tree. Suddenly you’ve got yourself a party.

If you want more action the possibilities are endless. For instance, you bring motorized boats for the kids to drive in the pond, do group carriage rides, go to the zoo, have a scavenger hunt, or make simple crafts. None of that sound appealing? There are lovely playgrounds throughout the park. Also nearby are baseball fields where you can play an adaptive ball game. Instead of these elaborate parties sometimes it’s nice to get back to basics and utilize this giant backyard! When friends or family are visiting NYC, Central Park Carousel should be near the top of the list. Slow down take in some nature and click below…

Carmine’s -Upper West Side

special needs nyc special needs birthday parties

So there’s a rumor that Garfield once flew to NYC from Indiana just to have an Italian Birthday Dinner with Jon and Odie in the early ’90s. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me because we all know how much Garfield loves lasagna. Unfortunately, I never heard where the group dined but Carmine’s Italian Restaurant would be where I would bet.

Carmine’s has been around a long time. Since 1990 in fact. That’s certainly no easy feat here in NYC. There are two locations-one in Times Square and one on the Upper West Side. I am choosing to only recommend the Upper West Side because it is not nearly as loud as the Times Square location. I also have personal experience in having a 14-year-old’s Italian Birthday Dinner Celebration at the UWS restaurant.

To begin with, the teens had their own table and the family-style Italian dining was a hit. I chose to sit at another table and observe from afar so the kids could have some independence. Because I had planned with the restaurant beforehand the waitstaff took special care in making sure the kids felt empowered during their dining experience. Markedly, there is a nice clean, friendly, old-school ambiance to Carmines. Definitely, a place that Kids and adults can talk and hear each other with no problem. Sometimes that’s hard to find nowadays.

Additionally, we had a teen in a wheelchair attend and it was a plus that all dining areas were wheelchair accessible. The birthday dessert was huge and made quite the impression on the table because of its magnitude and glorious presentation. All in all Carmine’s Italian Restaurant is a great place to go for a family celebration of any kind or just a random Tuesday. Private rooms are available and they have a very descriptive website that you can check out below. By the way, The Times Square Location may be just as wonderful. I am only going off my experience. Divertiti, Arrivederci!

Buffalo Wild Wings- Times Square -Theater District

birthday in times square buffalo wild wings

How about a Birthday Party in Times Square? Buffalo Wild Wings will be happy to host your shindig. Obviously everyone loves Chicken Wings and BWW has some of the best ones out there. Not to mention all the varieties of flavors and sauces they offer.

We really enjoy this location for several reasons. First, it’s a good size for a NY restaurant. It has a nice large room in the back that you can request to be seated in or even have your birthday celebration. The area is open and people can see inside but it’s still separated. There is plenty of room for a decent size group and space for kids to move freely. Clean and Friendly Staff. There are several TV’s high above that will keep kids engaged if that is important to you.

In addition, the entire restaurant is wheelchair accessible and not too loud. Given that I took two tween boys with Autism and they loved every minute. Furthermore, We ended up ordering a second round of wings for all of us. They are that good. Now for my favorite part. Their Blazin Rewards program will give you an order of FREE wings every year for your Birthday! Not only that if you get the APP on your phone you can play games, order online, and earn points. Of course, you get even more points every time you dine in. Easily sign up by providing your phone number in the APP. Although they ask for the number, they are not going to call you. It’s just an easy way for them to keep track of your points.

All things considered, if you’re trying to decide where to have your Birthday Party in Times Square, BWW fits the bill. Especially if you are a tween, teen, or young adult. Also, a great place to have a bite before or after a Broadway Show.

By the way, if someone is not a fan of wings, they have other menu options. If you want to check out their rewards program just click below.

Whenever you tell them what teams you root for you get an additional 50 pts. immediately!

Oh and I’ll take an extra side of ranch sauce, please.
